340 Miles to Buffalo
Looking west up the Mohawk River, at left. Lock 2, the foot and lowest point of the Erie Canal, at right. Photo take at Waterford, New York, at the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers. Despite the title of the photo, it's about 350 miles from here to the open waters of Lake Erie. A total of 57 locks between here and Buffalo lift or lower boats a total of 571 feet.
