Umberto Eco on Fascism
From NY Review, June 1995
De-paygated article worth reading

The NY Review has thrown open the paygate on this excellent 1995 article entitled Eternal Fascism that defines this brand of authoritarianism in all its types. Really a classic, because Umberto Eco does a great job of talking about and putting names on authoritarian styles, in a way that clarifies what's going on right now as well as back in the days and years leading up to Mussolini and Hitler.  And as Eco so rightly points out in the subtitle, “Freedom and liberation are an unending task.”

The New York Review – one of the three mags I consider indispensable … although I do find it necessary to let the subscription lapse from time to time until I get a “special offer” that's a lot cheaper.
